In Athens, urgent care centers are busiest on weekends and evenings when doctors' offices are closed, and most post their wait times online. Across Georgia, primary care practices often have a waitlist for new patients, so establishing care before you need it saves time. For a dental emergency outside office hours, an urgent care center can prescribe antibiotics and pain relief but cannot fix the tooth; a hospital emergency room can treat swelling that affects breathing or swallowing. Check the listing for insurance, hours and whether telehealth visits are offered.

Athens is in Georgia, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Athens follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

So grateful for Brad Upchurch, the pharmacy manager at UGA Health Center. His expert guidance, kindness and attention to detail just came through in a big way for our UGA junior. He helped us navigate the complex process required to get the student insurance plan to approve advance fills of meds for the entire summer prior to study abroad. He really went above and beyond. Shout out to Jessica and Suzanne who also helped us get this done.

⭐☆☆☆☆ I truly wish I had read the reviews before allowing my son to visit the University of Georgia Health Clinic for his first dental appointment on his own. What should have been a routine dental cleaning turned into a frustrating and disappointing experience. He went in expecting a basic cleaning but instead only received X-rays. No cleaning at all and was charged $148. I have NEVER in all my years of going to the dentist encountered a situation where the most basic service wasn’t provided during a scheduled visit. When he asked about the cleaning, he was told there was no hygienist available and that he would need to come back for another appointment. This is completely unacceptable. Why schedule a cleaning if you don’t have the staff to perform it? This felt incredibly misleading and, frankly, like a money grab. I am extremely disappointed and intend to pursue recourse for this experience. Parents of UGA students, please be aware and cautious before sending your child here.

The doctors, nurses, and staff at the UGA Health Center have always taken great care of me. They’re professional, kind, and genuinely committed to helping every patient. I trust them. I’ve often had a really good experience visiting, and even when the wait is long, it’s clear it’s because the doctors take their time and give each person the attention they deserve. The whole place is well‑run, and I’m grateful for the care they provide. They provide much more than a typical college health center does.

Had to get my blood drawn at the lab which I really hate, but the nurses were so awesome! Mrs. Hood took my blood and she helped by talking with me while she was doing it. When I said I felt like I was going to pass out after, she gave me orange juice and another nurse gave me a cooling pouch thing to put on my head. It was a really nice experience for having to do something that scares me. Mrs. Hood from Lab is awesome!

The University of Georgia Health Center exemplifies what healthcare should look like: sincere, community-driven, and built on actual patient care—not institutional ego. The physicians and staff here value humility, professionalism, and real-world effectiveness. There’s no room for performative excellence or academic theater. What matters is competence, empathy, and doing the job right. Simple as that. Then there’s the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where reputation often overshadows reality. Too many students are lifted by faculty favoritism, politics, and excessive internal support that inflates their image far beyond their actual skill set. Honors and letters of recommendation are too often handed out not for excellence, but for loyalty, flattery, and internal networking. It's an ecosystem that protects those who play along, and sidelines those who don’t. At UGA, what you get is real-world preparation. No nonsense. No games. Just a healthcare environment that values its mission and expects you to show up for it. At UM Miller, what you get is a political performance—one where students succeed based on who they appease, not what they contribute…….
